Good Government

A City Hall that listens

Residents deserve a council that is open, accountable, and collaborative.

I will work to:

Increase public engagement by improving communication between our city and our residents
Publish understandable budget information
Improve transparency around major projects
Make council decisions easier to follow
Strengthen relationships with community organizations
Work respectfully with all members of Council regardless of political differences

Climate & Environment

Climate action isn’t separate from affordability or public safety. Every investment in energy efficiency, clean transportation, and climate resilience reduces long-term costs while improving our health and quality of life. Climate action has to come first because there is no community if our city is on fire.

Climate resilience

The good news is that there’s plenty we can do about this global problem at the local level.

I will support:

Protecting the city from AI data centres and their enormous power and water needs
Continued clean-up of our harbour so residents have access to a safer shore
Further expanding the urban tree canopy to provide shade during summer heat
Strengthening emergency preparedness for heat, wildfire smoke, and flooding
Expansion of the municipal electric vehicle fleet
Restoring creeks and natural habitats to reduce flood risk
Investing in green infrastructure that absorbs stormwater naturally

Clean buildings

Buildings account for a significant share of community emissions. Making them more efficient lowers these emissions while also reducing heating and cooling costs for residents.

I will work toward:

Faster energy retrofits for existing buildings
Incentives for heat pumps and renewable energy
High performance standards for new developments
Reducing energy costs through improved efficiency

Cleaner transportation

Transportation is one of our largest local sources of emissions (and frustrations).

I support:

Prioritizing North Shore rapid transit projects, in partnership with regional agencies, to ease pressure on the road system
Improving sidewalks and accessibility to help encourage walking and rolling for short local trips
Completing safe cycling connections to help get more people out of cars (and therefore out of our infamous North Shore traffic jams)

Parks and biodiversity

Nature is one of North Vancouver’s greatest strengths and attractions.

My goals include:

Continuing to increase native tree planting
Expanding the restoration of pollinator habitats
Increasing naturalized public spaces
Improving park maintenance
Protecting environmentally sensitive areas

Fiscal Responsibility

Smart investments

Climate leadership and responsible budgeting go hand in hand.

I will:

Protect taxpayers’ money through evidence-based decisions
Prioritize infrastructure maintenance
Seek provincial and federal funding whenever available
Improve long-term financial planning
Measure outcomes and publicly report progress
Focus on projects that deliver long-term value

Local Economy

Supporting local businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of our community.

My priorities include:

Faster renovation/upgrade permit approvals
Simplifying business licensing where possible
Supporting vibrant commercial districts
Encouraging local entrepreneurship
Supporting tourism that respects residents and the environment
Attracting clean technology and green jobs

Public Spaces

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community.

I support:

More public washrooms
Universal accessibility improvements
Youth recreation opportunities
Community-based approaches to homelessness, alongside provincial partners
Strong emergency preparedness
Well-maintained parks and public spaces

Arts, Culture & Community

Arts, culture, and community

A vibrant city is more than buildings and roads.

I support:

Libraries
Festivals and cultural events that celebrate our diverse community
Recreation facilities
Community gathering spaces
Youth programs and family resources
Seniors’ services
Support for local artists and creative industries
Public art

Housing

Homes for every stage of life

I want to keep North Vancouver a place where families can grow, young adults can make their own homes, and seniors can age in their community.

I support:

Purpose-built rental housing that includes family-sized homes
Affordable housing partnerships with provincial and federal governments and non-profits
Streamlined permitting for affordable housing and renovations that reduces delays without sacrificing quality
Better accessibility standards and energy efficiency in new developments
More missing-middle housing in appropriate neighbourhoods
Continued gentle density near transit and commercial areas

I support growth that is well planned to meet the community’s needs, supported by infrastructure, and respectful of neighbourhood character.

Transportation

Reduced congestion through smarter planning

Building more rental and affordable housing will reduce congestion on our bridges: people who work in the community can LIVE in the community rather than commute. In parallel, residents need more ways to move around the North Shore and reach other parts of the region without adding to bridge access congestion.

I will support:

Advocacy to translink, federal and BC governments supporting North shore rapid transit
Improved rapid transit reliability through regional advocacy. This includes the creation of a designated express transit access lane to both bridges (on Marine Drive and Main Street respectively) during peak rush hour times
Accessible sidewalks
Safer intersections
Continuous bike routes

Reconciliation

The City has an important role in advancing reconciliation.

I support continued collaboration with the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Watuth) Nations through respectful government-to-government relationships, thoughtful land-use planning, cultural recognition, and shared stewardship of the environment.

As someone who’s coached youth softball in North Vancouver, and for everyone who wants a more inclusive, positive, community-minded North Vancouver, I’m excited to support Tammy Bentz for North Vancouver City Council. She genuinely shows up for people, including those who don’t always feel represented in local politics. She champions the little guy, supports local business, and brings an openness & optimism that’d be a great asset to Council. She understands that a strong community is one where everyone has a place at the table and is heard.

Tammy is also truly passionate about the “think global, act local” philosophy of making the world a better place by making things better for your neighbours in your own city. For example, I know the global climate crisis was a huge factor in Tammy first becoming interested in politics, but she thinks about it in terms of things like advocating for better rapid transit options and planting more shade trees right here in the City of North Vancouver. She will be a strong and active voice on Council; she will get things done, and she will always listen to her neighbours about the issues that matter most.
